This six week course offers a re-examination of the referential, abstract and reflexive sonic characteristics intrinsic to all sounds within the context of acousmatic music and the most encompassing of the nine indicative fields – space. It  presents an overview of the key characteristics and psychological effects within the domain of three-dimensional sound including aspects of ‘comingness’ (Lenox and Myatt 2006), envelopment and verticality. In short, the unit offers a summary of compositional strategies that are known to be highly effective within the context of sound-based music presented through the medium of audio-only.
